RemarksbySenatorHillaryRodhamClintontothe2005AmericanIsraelpublicAffairsCommittee(AIpAC)policyConferenceaelisnotonly,however,afriendandallyforus,itisabeaconofwhatdemocracycanandshouldmean.Itis,afterall,apluralisticdemocracy.Itis,asmanyofusknowfrompersonalexperiences,averydynamicdemocracywithmanypointsofview,andthoseareexpreedwithgreatfrequencyandvigor.SoifpeopleintheMiddleEastarenotsurewhatdemocracymea,letthemlooktoIsrael,whichhasbeenandremaiatrue,faithfuldemocracy.Butweknowthatthegoal,theimportant,eentialgoalofademocratizingMiddleEastiscomplex,anditisnotwithoutrisks.Afewmonthsago,IwentforthesecondtimetoIraqandKuwaitandAfghanistanandpakistan,andIreturnedhomewithhopefulneaboutwhatIhadseenandlearned,butalsowithaseeofcautionabouthowweshouldproceed.InIraqIsawfirsthandthedailychallengesconfrontingtheIraqipeople.Imetwithanumberofourtroo,thebraveyoungmenandwomenwhoareonfreedom'sfrontlinesinIraq.ImetwithourcivilianrepresentativesintheembayandotheragencieswhoarealsoriskingtheirlivestohelptheIraqipeople.AndImetwithrepresentativesoftheformerinterimIraqigovernmentandthenewlyelectedIraqigovernment,aswellasprivateIraqicitize.NowIcameawaywithseveraloverwhelmingimpreio.First,nomatterwhatonethinksabouteventsthathaveunfoldedinIraq,thereisnodoubtthattheAmericanmilitaryhasperformedadmirably,withprofeionalism,andthateveryyoungmanandwomanwhowearstheuniformofourcountrydeservesoursuort,whethertheybeactiveduty,guard,orreservetroop.Youknow,itisontrilikethat--deitetheoftendangerouscircumstances,IwishIcouldbringeveryoneofmycotituents--all19millionofthemandanyotherswhocouldcome--toseefirsthand.IflewfromBaghdadtoFallujahinaBlackhawkhelicopter;metwiththeMarineswhohadliberatedFallujahfromtheiurgentsandterrorists.ImetwithmanyothersofourMarinesandsoldierswhoarecommittedtotheirmiiontotrytobringfreedomtothepeopleofIraq.They,aswellasthetrooIsawinKuwaitandinAfghanistan,arecommittedtothisfundamentalbeliefthatpeopledeservetherighttobefree,deservetherighttoselecttheirowngovernment,deservetherighttoplotandplanforabetterfutureforthemselvesandtheirchildren.Ihopethateachofyou,asyoutravelthroughyourstatesandcommunities,willmakeitapointtothanktheseyoungpeople,becausethey'repayingaveryhighprice:1,600-pluslosttheirlivethousandsandthousandshavereturnedhomegrievouslyinjured.Becauseoftheadvancesinbattlefieldmedicineandthenewbodyarmorthatourtroowear,manyaresurvivinginjuriesthatwouldhaveleftpreviousgeneratioofyoungmenandwomendead.SothereisnodoubtthatAmericahasstarteddownapath,withbloodandtreasure,totrytocreatetheconditionfordemocracyandfreedomintheMiddleEast--whichhascoequencesfortheentireregion,foroursecurity,andcertainlyforIsrael's.Atthiscriticaltimeinthiscomplicatedsituationwefindourselvesin,Ithinkit'simportanttorecognizetheextraordinarystandthatprimeMinisterSharonandthedemocraticallyelectedgovernmentofIsraelhavetakenastheyfacetherisksandchallengesofdisengagementandastheytrytodealwiththenewlyelectedpalestinianleadership.Theprimeminister--whomIampleasedtonotewillfollowmetothisstage--andthestateofIsraelthathehasdevotedhisentirelifetoservingaretakingatremendousrisk.IbelieveitisourobligationasfriendsandsuortersandalliesofIsraeltosuortIsrael'seffortsforpeace,stabilityandsecurity.Now,thismeadoingmorethanprovidingIsraelwitheconomicaidsothatitcanremainstronginthefaceofongoingthreats.WemustalsodemandthatpresidentAasdismantlethestructuresofterrorthatthepalestinianleadershiphasemployedforsolong.Youknow,inademocracy,evenafledglingdemocracy,leadersmustbeheldaccountable.AndpresidentAasmustbeheldaccountablefortheactiotakingplaceunderhisleadership.IknowthatyouareaskingyoursenatorsandrepresentativestosignontoalettertopresidentBushaboutthis,andI'mproudtosuorttheseeffortsbecausetherecanbenodoubtthatasIsraelanditsdemocraticgovernmenttakethesesteandwesuortthem,therehastobereciprocityontheothersideaswell.AndmakingprogretowardpeaceandsecurityalsorequirestheendofthebarrageofhateandincitementthatisstillofficiallysanctionedbythepalestinianAuthority.Now,IwasrelievedtolearnthisweekthatthepalestinianAuthorityremovedtheprotocolsoftheEldersofZionfromitsweite.Reportedly,ithadbeenincludedontheweiteundertheheading"historyofZionism,"butwhatwasitdoingthereinthefirstplaceeventhoughwearerelievedthatitisnolongerthere?Wemustcontinuetobevigilantaboutmonitoringhateandincitementandanti-Semitism,notonlybythepalestinianAuthoritybutthroughouttheArabworld.SauditextbookscharacterizeJewsaswicked.Iraniannewsreports,obviouslyrepresentingtheopinionoftheirgovernment,havelentcredencetoHolocaustdeniers.Thisisaniuethatallofusneedtobeconcernedabout.Andfiveyearsago,Istoodwithmyfriend,ElieWiesel,todenouncethisincitement,thisviolence,thisanti-Semitisminpalestiniantextbooks.AndI'vebeenworkingonthisiuebecausetomeitisoneofthosebasiciuesthat--howdoweexpecttohaveademocraticallyelectedpalestiniangovernmentiftheirtextbooksarestillpreachingsuchhatred,andifweallowthisifweallowthisdehumanizingrhetorictogounchallenged.Becausewhatishaeningisyoungmindsarebeinginfectedwiththisanti-Semitism,andthatisgoingtoruncountertowhatwehopecanhaenoverthenextyearsaswedoworkforpeaceandstability.Sowemustcontinuetoshineabrightotlightonthesemeagesofhatredandtheseenticementsformartyrdominthesetextbooksandonthemediathattakeyoungmindsandtwistandpervertthemandcreateanewgenerationofterroristsandiurgents.Aboutayearandahalfago,IheldahearingwithSenatorecteronthepalestinianmedia,andIconfrontedthepalestinianAuthorityrepresentativeaboutthisiue,whomwehadinvitedtocomeandaddretheSenatecommittee.Iurgedhimtoacknowledgethatwhenitcomestochildren,whoeverthosechildrenare,shieldingthemfromhateandviolenceshouldbethenumberonepriorityoftheirfamiliesandtheirgovernmentsandtheentireglobalcommunitytopreventthishatredfromfestering.Usingchildrenaspawinapoliticalproceistantamounttochildabuse,andwemustsayithastoendnow!And,ofcourse,thatinfectioniscontagious,anditcanreadbeyondthepalestinianterritories.ItcanreadintootherpartsoftheArabworld,anditcanimpactwhatgoesonthere.Andofcourse,oneoftheareasIamdeeplyconcernedaboutisIran,anditspursuitofnuclearweapo,becauseanuclear-armedIranwouldshakethefoundationofglobalsecuritytoitsverycore.Israelwouldbemostimmediatelyandprofoundlythreatenedbythisdevelopment,butIsraelwouldnotbealone.KnowingofIran'shistoricandpresenttiestoterroristnetworks,howwouldwefeel,hereinAmerica,iftheIraniacouldstartproducingnuclearweapoatwill?HowwouldtheEuropeafeelifIrancouldstartnuclearweapoatwill?Soletusbeunequivocallyclear.Anuclear-armedIranisunacceptable,butitisnotjustunacceptabletoIsraelandtotheUnitedStates.Itmustbeunacceptabletotheentireworld,startingwiththeEuropeangovernmentsandpeople.IknowthatduringyourconferenceandintheloyingthatyouwillbedoingonCapitolHill,you'retryingtodrawattentiontothethreatthatisposedbyanuclearIran.AndIcommendyoufortheseeffortthisisoneofourmostserioussecurityandforeignpolicypriorities.Andweneedtomakeworkin第1版权所有gwithouralliestopreventanIraniannuclearweaponatoppriority.NowoneoftheterroristgrouthatIransuortsisHezbollah.AndweknowthatHezbollahposesadirectanddirerisktothestabilityoftheMiddleEast.Syria'swithdrawalfromLebanon--whichisverygoodnewsfortheLebanesepeople--alsocreatesanoortunityforHezbollahtowreakhavoc.SoweneedtoremainvigilantabouttheterroristthreatandworktostoptheflowofsuorttoHezbollahfromSyriaandIran.AndweneedtoconvinceourEuropeanalliesofHezbollah'sthreattoorderintheregionandtothecivilizedworld,andconvincethemtodesignateHezbollahasaterroristorganization.AndtheEuropeamustdomoretocutoffthefundingandthefund-raisingthatgoesoninEuropeforHezbollah,Hamas,andIslamicJihadassoonaspoible.Now,therearemanyotherimportantandpreingiuesthatmustbeonouragenda,butIknowthatasyoutraveltotheHilltomeetwithyourrepresentativesandsenators,youwillbepresentingaverythoughtfulandcompellinganalysisoftheseandotherchallengesweface.IthankyoufornotonlybeingwillingtostandupforourvaluesandourrelatiohipwithIsrael,butalsototakeyourreoibilitiesascitizeseriously,toloyandtoadvocate,topersuadeandtodiuade,todiscuthesecriticaliueswithallwhowilllisten.Wearelivingatanextraordinarymomentinhistory.TherearesomedayswhenIamveryoptimistic,andthereareotherdays,Ihavetoconfe,whenI'mpeimistic.Iguethatjustgoeswiththeterritory.ButwhatIamaolutelyconvincedofisthatourcommonvalues,valuessharedandexemplifiedbyourcountryandbyIsrael,aretherightvalues,thevaluesthateveryoneshouldhaveanoortunitytobeexposedtoandtounderstandand,hopefully,toemulate.Thereisnootheroptionintheworldthat,asTomFriedmansaid,hasbeenflattened.Wecancommunicatewitheachother,wecanbetraortedoverlongdistancesquickly,wecanfolloweventsinotherplacesfaraway.Andtherefore,weneedtorecognizethatourstruggle,ourongoingstruggleforfreedomanddemocracyistheonlywaythatwecaneurethatinthisshrinking,flattenedworld,ourchildrenwillhaveachanceforpeaceandsecurity.Wecaotshrinkfromthedutythatthistimehasimposeduponus.Wecanhavegreat--andweshould--greatdebatesanddiscuioaboutwhatarethebestwaystoproceedandtopursuethesecommonobjectives.Weneedthat.Weneedthatdebateanddiscuionbecauseweareinunchartedterritory.Noonehasalltheawers,andweneedthecombinedintelligenceandgoodideasofasmanypeopleaspoible.SowhatyouaredoingtodayisnotonlyonbehalfofAIpAC,notonlyonbehalfofIsrael,notonlyonbehalfofthestrongandenduringrelatiohipbetweentheUnitedStatesandIsrael;itistrulyonbehalfofthekindofworldwewantforourchildrenand,forthoseluckyenough,grandchildren.Andwecaotgrowweary.Thisisalong,arduouspath.Israel,Israelis,theAmericanJewishcommunityandthebroaderdiaoraknowaboutthisstruggleandthispathbetterthanmost.Soifweresolvenottogrowweary,buttopursuethesevaluestogether,Iamultimatelynotonlyoptimistic,butconfidentthattheworldwillseeabetterandbrighterday,andourchildrenwillth第1版权所有ankusformakingitpoible.Thankyouallverymuch.Godbleyou."RemarksbySenatorHillaryRodhamClintontothe2005AmericanIsraelpublicAffairsCommittee(AIpAC)policyConference

青少年朋友们：
今天大家怀着对先烈崇敬的心情来到烈士园祭扫烈士陵墓，缅怀革命先烈，这是很有意义的活动。今年悼念活动的主题是“弘扬先烈精神，树立远大理想”。
在烈士园的英烈事迹展示厅中，展示了我县146名烈士的光辉业绩，如勇敢的斗士柔石烈士，抗战英雄朱学勉烈士，为国争光、为国流血的童遵孝烈士，带头突围、英勇牺牲的邬时奕烈士，青春碧血献丹心的章晓红烈士，用生命谱写英雄赞歌的吕安根、葛亚玲烈士，以及去年4月4日为扑灭山林火灾而先后牺牲的救火英雄泮相元、曹再吉、童炜滨三位烈士，等等。烈士们谱写的一曲曲英勇悲壮的历史篇章震撼着我们的心灵。
今年是中国人民抗日战争伟大胜利60周年，在抗日战争中，千百万中华优秀儿女为打败日本帝国主义对我国的侵略，为国捐躯，献出了自己宝贵的生命。纪念这段历史，可以使我们回忆起战争给中国人民带来的灾难，宣传中国共产党在全民族团结抗战中的中流砥柱作用，激励和动员全国各族人民为实现中华民族的伟大复兴，促进世界和平与发展，使历史的悲剧永远不再重演。
青少年朋友们，各个时期的革命烈士都是时代的先锋、民族的脊梁、祖国的功臣，他们的精神光照千秋，永垂青史。我们要弘扬先烈的崇高精神，革命传统要牢牢记在心头，以此激励我们、警示我们，要珍惜革命先烈用鲜血和生命换来的今天社会安定祥和、经济持续增长、人民安居乐业的美好生活。

岁月回眸，欢歌如潮。2004年，公司党委、公司紧紧围绕 “做强做大沱牌集团”的目标，大力实施科技兴企、人才兴企、结构调整和可持续发展四大战略，着力培育和壮大酿酒、药业、玻瓶包装、纸箱包装、食用酒精五大重点产业，努力在走生态经营和新型工业化道路上实现二个突破，不断开拓创新，与时俱进，使公司经济建设稳步推进，精神文明建设卓有成效。2004年公司实现产值11.67亿元，实现销售收入 9.23 亿元。公司先后被授予“中国食品工业百强企业”、“四川省尊师重教先进集体”、“四川省省级经济工业生态园区”等荣誉称号。
展望未来，信心百倍。2005年是实施"十五"计划的最后一年，也是深入学习贯彻党的十六届四中全会精神、保持公司发展良好势头的关键一年。在新的一年里，公司党委、公司，将认真落实科学发展观，增强执行力，抓好发展这个第一要务，紧扣经济建设这个中心，围绕结构调整这条主线，加快管理创新、技术创新、体制创新、金融创新，推进新型工业化进程，不断加快产业、产品及所有制结构调整，为实现沱牌战略转型和跨越式发展而努力奋斗。

2005年春节拜年讲话
2005年春节拜年讲话全县各级领导、广大教职员工、父老乡亲们：
值此新春佳节来临之际，我代表县教育局向关心支持教育事业的各级领导、社会各界仁人志士表示衷心的感谢!向辛勤工作在教育战线上的广大教职员工及其家属表示亲切的慰问，向全县父老乡亲拜年！2004年，在县委、县政府的正确领导下，在社会各界的关心和支持下，经过全县广大教育工作者的共同努力，我县教育事业日新月异，继续保持着跨越式发展的良好态势。
办学条件不断改善。全年争取上级专款到位资金1034.97万元，吸引社会资金793万元。完成固定资产投资2296.2万元。其中危漏校舍改造投入资金870.26万元，总建筑面积21691.76平方米。撤并教学点8个，数村联合办学5个。
教育骨干体系不断壮大。眉中创建成省级重点高中，横初中创建成省级示范初中，横渠镇创建成教育强镇，职教中心顺利通过国家级复检，7所学校被命名为示范校。目前，全县省、市级示范学校已占学校总数的1/3以上。
信息技术教育发展步伐不断加快。全县共投入近200万元，充实完善了信息技术装备。截止目前，建设微机教室84个，多媒体教室44个，电子备课室21个，主控室12个，购置微机2861台。全县所有中学、三分之一小学建起了计算机网络教室。教育信息化的装备水平和普及程度不断提高，继续处在全省领先位置。
教育教学质量再创辉煌。我县各学段学生在各级各类学科竞赛中屡拔头筹；中考质量在全市领先；高考一批本科上线564人，二批本科上线1227人，三批本科上线2034人。三批次上线率分别高出全市平均上线率8.61个百分点、14.55个百分点和15.19个百分点，均居全市第一。实现了高考五连冠的奋斗目标。
职业教育兴旺发达，职教招生人数突破历史记录，共招生2000多名，职教在校生人数达4000多人。1000多名学历教育和短训毕业生全部得到安置安置率百分之百，05年毕业生也提前被用人单位预约。成人教育成绩显著，农科教紧密结合，各乡镇村农技校和职教中心为农服务工作站广泛开展了各种为农服务活动，全年共培训4万余人次。
教师队伍建设、教育督导、勤工俭学、招生等项工作继续保持着在省、市领先地位，分别获得省、市先进称号。
这些成绩的取得，离不开县委、县政府的正确领导和社会各界的大力支持，离不开教育系统广大干部职工的不懈努力和离退休老领导、老同志的一如既往的关注。在新的一年里，我们将以党的十六届四中全会和全国、全省农村教育工作会精神为指针，围绕县委、县政府提出的创建“旅游大县、科教名县、经济强县”的奋斗目标，按照巩固、深化、发展、提高的工作方针，以更加昂扬的姿态，更加饱满的工作热情，更加优异的工作成绩，向全县人民献礼。
